Females are larger and have the bright coloration as seen in the first picture, and males are significantly smaller and uglier. Males will also often hang out in the periphery of a female’s web - I was lucky enough to see this cohabitation!

I’m not usually a fern person, but the coloration of this caught my attention. In many species within the Adiantum genus, new growths start as pink and turn green once mature. The nice gradient here indicates that those fronds are mid-maturation.

The fellow in the cover picture was asleep and camouflaged incredibly well within the leaf litter and I nearly stepped on him. I pet him for a while (clean hands, don’t worry - and he was very warty, and I expected him to be more moist, but he wasn’t) which woke him up, and then he jumped headfirst into the tree in the background. And then I took this picture.
